CHÂTEAU DE CHAMBORD
CHAMBORD, LOIR-ET-CHER, FRANCE
Physical location – Château 41250, Chambord, France
Our take: This spectacular example of French Renaissance architecture, the largest in the Loire Valley, originally served as a hunting lodge for Francis I in the mid-16th century. Boasting manicured gardens, water features including a moat, other highlights include vaulted hallways, an open double-spiral staircase, and an elaborately detailed roofline.

HÔTEL CHÂTEAU DE ROUSSAN
HÔTEL ET RESTAURANT
Physical location – Route de Tarascon, 13210 Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France
Our take: The imposing facade of Château de Roussan at the end of a lane of ancient plane trees remains one of our first memories of the area around our beloved Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Slated to reopen this month, this former mansion offers 20 beautifully furnished suites and rooms, a natural pool on its grounds, and a full service restaurant. We recommend any of the gorgeous desserts!
